Doing Good: Our first year as a B Corp

Posted by Louise Palmer on 15th August 2024

In July 2023, Wildfire became a certified B Corp, cementing our Do Good value and commitment to be a force for good for our people, community, and the planet.

And over the last 12 months we’ve been united in our efforts to continue to make a positive impact — driving up our B Impact Assessment (BIA) score from 90.6 to 132.4.

A commitment to our culture

The shift in our score is significant. We’ve made improvements across all areas of the B Corp framework. But the changes we’ve made to how we run our agency have made the biggest difference.

In May 2024, Wildfire became a 100% employee-owned business — securing our culture and creating an agency that is truly run by putting our people first. Now, our team has greater transparency on the direction of the business — and more opportunity to get involved and shape our future.

This commitment to our people has also seen Wildfire become a certified Great Place to Work™, with awards for top 100 rankings also secured in the Great Place to Work™ for Women, Development, and Wellbeing schemes in 2024.

Taking positive action

Over the last 12 months, we’ve also ensured that the principles of the B Corp framework are woven into many other aspects of our business, not just our culture.

They’ve influenced the decisions we’ve made, the partners and suppliers we work with, and how we engage with our clients.

Some of our highlights in our first year include:

  •   Investment in our team’s wellbeing and skills development, boosting retention and satisfaction
  •   Enabling our team to volunteer 198 paid hours to charities and causes they care about
  •   Moving to 100% renewable energy and choosing eco-friendly office supplies
  •   Prioritising local and independent suppliers

We’ve been having fun together too, with a five-a-side football Plate win at The PR Cup 2023 for The Taylor Bennett Foundation — which promotes the inclusion of talent from Black, Asian, and ethnic minority backgrounds in PR and comms. And we’ve worked with environmental organisation Citizen Zoo to rehome water voles near our HQ in Kingston upon Thames.

Continuing our impact

In our first year as a B Corp, I’m proud of the progress we’ve made. Of course, there’s more that we want to do. But with a motivated, ambitious team of employee-owners, I know we will continue to deliver on our Do Good commitment.

With EO-led working groups already set up to mirror the B Corp framework — including diversity and inclusion, client services, and innovation — we’re all set to make an impact on the things we all care about.
